Titirangi hexagonal roof finished with a seamless white Noxyde membrane
Project — Titirangi, Auckland

Titirangi asbestos roof encapsulation

A weathered hexagonal asbestos-cement roof saved with Noxyde — no removal, no replacement.

Encapsulated instead of removed

The hexagonal asbestos-cement roof in Titirangi had weathered significantly over time, leaving the substrate vulnerable to further deterioration.

Rather than undertaking costly asbestos removal and a full roof replacement, a full encapsulation using the Rust-Oleum Noxyde® system was specified.

Following careful low-impact cleaning and preparation, a multi-layer elastomeric waterproofing membrane was applied across the roof surface, encapsulating the asbestos and creating a seamless protective barrier against moisture ingress, UV exposure and ongoing weathering.

The challenge

A vulnerable, weathered substrate

  • Hexagonal asbestos-cement roof weathered significantly over time
  • Porous, exposed substrate vulnerable to further deterioration
  • Removal and full replacement would have been costly and disruptive
The system

Rust-Oleum Noxyde® encapsulation

  • Careful low-impact cleaning and preparation of the existing sheets
  • Multi-layer elastomeric Noxyde membrane applied across the roof surface
  • Seamless barrier against moisture ingress, UV exposure and ongoing weathering

Have your asbestos roof inspected first

In most cases an asbestos roof can be salvaged and encapsulated rather than removed. Before committing to replacement, let us arrange an inspection with an approved asbestos consultant.

Noxyde Anti-Corrosion CoatingNoxyde

Noxyde Anti-Corrosion Coating

Paint straight over prepared rust, stopping corrosion for decades.

Noxyde is the only anti-corrosion waterproofing membrane on the market that can be applied directly over clean, prepared rust — no separate primer required. For over 29 years it has protected New Zealand's most severe coastal environments, from saltwater estuary bridges to iconic steel roofs. It is also used to extend the life and safely encapsulate asbestos roofs, locking fibres in place and adding decades of waterproof protection without the cost of removal.
