The 45 metre Auckland Airport flagpole flying a large New Zealand flag
Project — Auckland Airport

Protecting one of New Zealand's most recognisable landmarks

The main Auckland Airport flagpole — New Zealand's tallest.

A landmark in its own right

Standing 45 metres tall, the main Auckland Airport flagpole is the tallest flagpole in New Zealand and flies a massive 72-square-metre New Zealand flag, welcoming millions of visitors each year as they arrive at the country's busiest airport.

Constant exposure to New Zealand's harsh UV, wind, rain and coastal conditions had left the steel surface dull, weathered and showing early signs of corrosion. A structure of this prominence demanded more than just a cosmetic repaint — it required a long-term protective coating system capable of withstanding one of the country's most demanding environments.

The specified system

Modern Maintenance Products specified a proven Rust-Oleum coating system comprising Rust-Oleum 9100 Epoxy as the anti-corrosion base coat, followed by Rust-Oleum 9800 Polyurethane as the architectural topcoat.

The result is a durable, high-performance coating system that delivers exceptional corrosion protection while providing the premium architectural finish expected of one of New Zealand's most iconic public structures.
